History
Wielkopolskie Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłu Ziemniaczanego S.A. dates back to 1904. The opening of the first small potato-processing plant gave rise to the Company’s over 100-year-old history. During the century of its existence, the Company has been undergoing numerous structural and ownership changes.
In 1992, WPPZ was transformed into a Joint Stock Company and participated in the General Privatization Programme. In 1995 the Company’s shares were brought in to the National Investment Funds. Since 2001, WPPZ S.A. has been a property of private shareholders.
Together with continuous structural changes, also numerous investments were implemented in the Company, new technologies were introduced, the production plants were modernized and developed and the product portfolio was expanded. In 1988 – 1991, in cooperation with a German company Westfalia-Separator, a line for retrieving proteins from potato juice was built, together with a new starch-department, which allowed for the minimalization of costs and decreased the amount of sewage. The technologies used allowed for the production of highest quality starch.
In 2005, the Company opened a new Food Products Branch and Starch Department in Staw Production Plant, transferring all production lines from Luboń to Staw Plant as a result.
At present, in order to constantly increase our quality and to expand our product portfolio, we are modernizing our production lines and making the production process more effective.
WPPZ S.A. currently employs about 150 employees. The Company’s registered office and the seat of the Management Board are located in Luboń. Production, Sales and Quality Control Departments have been transferred to the Production Plant in Staw.
Our Company has its own tradition and a hundred years old history. While meeting the challenges of the contemporary market, we are consolidating and cooperating with other Polish starch industry plants. Right now, WPPZ S.A. holds 44,6% of the domestic potato starch production quota allocated within the Common Agricultural Policy.
